I've been using this drive (open from enclosure) in my NAS for over a year with no problem. I think it's the enclosure that doesn't allow enough heat to escape.
thank you for speaking for everyone! it makes sense to do so because your needs reflect those of every other person who uses slickdeals. i mean, it's not like there are people who are, say, photographers, videographers, IT pros, business owners who need large external storage. their equipment just pops out of thin air. they don't shop for this stuff... that would be totally ridiculous!

sarcasm aside, there are always like 20 people like you who pollute threads with useless commentary. it's getting ridiculous. some people use their computers for things other than porn and youtube. if it's an overkill for you, go to the next deal and save your commentaries for someone who gives a shit. i personally have 80TB of redundant storage an I'm almost out of space again.
God damn it, are there ANY good high capacity external hard drives?

I bought this about 6 months ago at Microcenter for the same price. I use it for my Xbox One! This Hdd has a 3yr warranty as apposed to the 1yr most other ones give you. I ordered another one for my PS4 since it is getting full.

No. the Expansion model has 1 year warranty. The Backup Plus had 3 years.

Yeah, I can't recommend this drive to anyone. It failed on me after 6 months, which I then promptly had replaced. The replacement has since failed(just after 6 months) and of course isn't under warranty anymore. Luckily I was only using it for my Xbox so I really just lost games that I needed to re-download.

5TB w/ 1 year warranty ? Just enough time for backup & restore on an other drive before warranty ends. Have fun with Seagate !
