It always amazes me that there is very little interest on Slickdeals in Gamestop's used game promotions. Some are pretty good. This 4 for $40 deal is pretty bad--many of the games are less than $10 already. But there are 392 games on the list and many of these Xbox 360 and PS3 games are selling used in the $14.99 - 19.99 range, so there is potential if you get lucky to find a store that has 4 games in that price range that you are interested in.

Thankfully, CheapAssGamer user blackbeard4886 created a Google docs spreadsheet that lists not only the current used prices but also trade in values etc. if you want to try to flip the games.

Do you mean buy them and just trade them back in? Won't the GameStop employees ban you from shopping there? There must be some kind of rule against it I would imagine.

According to the Google document and double checking on www.gamestop.com I see that a lot of the games are normally $9.99 to begin with.

Yes, more than 30% are already less than $9.99, which would make it very difficult to make this deal worthwhile. However, many of the games are currently $19.99 and some in the $20s. So it is technically possible to stroll in and pick up 4 used games for about half the price. But very unlikely. I've been to two stores and can't make this work--just not enough stock to choose from. If they had even done 2 for $20 it would have worked for me, but come off it Gamestop. 4 game investment to get maybe 50% off?

Hope someone finds something that works for them.

Example. If I could find a store with these four games I'd do this deal and save 50%. But good luck finding four that you like at the same location.

You said it yourself. This is a bad deal. I could've posted this deal and document here myself early last week but it's simply not a good deal. There'd be an onslaught of thumbs down as you're getting right now too. Likely others already knew about this deal and didn't post it for the same reasons I didn't. Another thing is that a lot of the listed games can be obtained for cheaper on Walmart dot com and it's been that way for quite some time. I go there first before hitting up Gamestop's site.

One more thing is that Gamestop regularly has unannounced price drops so you're better off just checking the site daily. That's what I do. I've seen many games fluctuate from 7 bucks down to 99 cents and back up in price. Looks like those 4 for $10 days are long gone.

But what is a bad deal? That confuses me a lot about these types of bargain bin deals. In the past when Blockbuster started dumping their games at BOGO or half price for all under $19.99 I saw only moderate interest in the forums on Slickdeals. Meanwhile people are going ape over buying $20 gift cards for $19.

I'm not trolling here--really just trying to figure out why some gaming discount threads take off like wildfire and some are just ho-hum. Maybe it's the fact that all of these deep discounts (BOGO, 50% off, 4 for $40) are for fairly crummy looking old games with no boxes or instructions and there is a strong preference for new, shrink-wrapped software. For me I couldn't care less. I got GTA V for $5 and never paid more than $5 for any Call of Duty or Mass Effect. But that's me. I just want to use the software and don't mind waiting two years.

If anyone does make this crummy deal work, let me know. I think it's fascinating* to watch vendors like Gamestop try different promos, some of which fall flat. My guess is that a few weeks after this ends on 14 AUG we'll see the games on this list that are currently in the $15 - $30 range fall to $8.99, which I'll pick up for $3.99 with all the PowerUp Rewards $5 coupons they send me.

@jackface: Thanks for price drop advice. I didn't know that. I'll start checking the Gametstop used games list daily.

* I think the entire world of retail marketing is fascinating. I can sometimes find Nathan's Beef Franks for 1/3 price at my local grocery store because they aren't particularly good at stocking items with sell-by dates. But Walmart will never EVER discount those items because they are so phenomenal at maintaining their supply chain so as to rarely have to deeply discount anything.

That list has a LOT of sub-$10 games which makes 4 for $40 a sh!t deal on all levels. Also, some of us remember past Gamestop 4 for whatever deals. 40 bucks is outrageous for the games on the list even if some of them are current gen. And as stated before, Gamestop has competition these days that have better prices (mainly Walmart). Sometimes, you do gotta search the site to compare deals to make sure you're posting something worthwhile so you don't get TD'd to hell. Lol.

I hear ya there but a buck is a buck. Can't hate on that. This is Slickdeals after all.

Gotta look at the politics of it and there are a ton of them. Boils down to money. Slick is gonna promote deals that make them money/clicks first and foremost. Other deals are so good that they're TD'd so they don't get promoted as quickly so greedy SDers can take advantage of them. And there are deals that appear good and legit that are TU'd before anyone ever replicates it which I think is pure foolishness. I've seen deals get hundreds of TU and no one ever replicates it because the deal is never verified. I personally never TU ANYTHING (!) until I take advantage of it to prove its legitimacy. Then you have people who TU anything certain posters post and TD posts that got posted by someone else before they were able to or someone they don't like even if the deal is good. There's just too much to list.

Walmart is good at that, but that's not the reason you don't see them in Walmart. Walmart has deals with the manufacturers and food brokers. Product is either shipped back, or brokered out to nearby food resellers who specialize in bulk damaged items and past their prime in terms of sell by/use by dates. Those brokers then resell to the secondary market, so they end up at Ollies, Grocery Outlet, etc.

Oh, and to stay on topic, this deal does kinda stuck. I'll hold out for 4/$20, when I can pickup some really old titles that I haven't played yet. Currently enjoying Dead Space....yes, the ORIGINALSmilie I'm pretty lame...

No, you're not lame. wave I played Dead Space 1 for the first time a few months ago in May and beat it in June. One of the top 5 games I've ever played. Just because a game is "old" doesn't mean it's too late to play and yes, I've met people who believe the opposite. I'm playing Aladdin on Sega Genesis and the first Uncharted game now. No shame! Keep enjoying your game! woot

I went in and grabbed four games, two for XB1 and two for PS4. Someone put a used game in the bin that was not eligible ($27). The manager felt bad and they decided to give me the game as part of the deal, very happy I decided to go for this deal!
