For the general public, the free upgrade offer for Windows 10 ends on July 29. However, if you use assistive technologies, you can still get the free upgrade offer even after the general public deadline expires as Microsoft continues our efforts to improve the Windows 10 experience for people who use these technologies.

With the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, we’ve taken a number of steps to improve the accessibility of Windows 10 accessibility. To learn more, read our blog that details some of these improvements.

Before you upgrade, please check with your assistive technology provider(s) to learn more about their software compatibility with Windows 10.
Does not require any specific piece of software or technology.

Same requirements Pro -> Pro, Home -> Home apply.

Hope this helps someone.

Telling folks to keep XP is incredibly bad advice.

Actually, XP is incredibly good.
Windows 7 is OK to stay.
Windows 8 is just junk.
Just forget Windows 10 , bandwidth killer, download upgrades everyday

For anyone who does upgrade, I HIGHLY recommend removing any external USB devices (outside of keyboard and mouse). I read numerous articles where that caused issues during the upgrade.

Mine hung around 26% overall (88% during the file copy transfer). I eventually had to power cycle. It didn't pick up where it left off or start over. When it finished, it looked like I was okay as Windows 10 loaded. But when I rebooted, I got a BSOD with an error something like 0x0000098c saying that the BCD was corrupt. In a nutshell, it couldn't find the correct area to load/boot from. I could get in with a Windows 10 boot DVD, but without it, my computer couldn't boot. After upwards of 10 hours of troubleshooting / throwing fixes at it, I got it working. Not sure if the program I paid $20 for helped or not, but...

My wife's upgraded with no issues. I made darn sure to remove the USB cables from her machine first.

Incredibly insecure. It stopped receiving security updates on April 8, 2014, 850 days ago.

It also lacks support for some standards which may have a negative impact on the user experience such as TLS 1.1, TLS 1.2, and HTTP/2. It also uses an older driver model from Vista and above, so drivers likely won't be back-ported to XP in the future.

Is not good advice in the sense that it is not secure to use it. Since Microsoft doesn't support it any more it has many security holes that will never be patch or fixed.

Windows 10 is a waste of hard drive space. Proudly running DOS 1.0 here. Best OS ever.

Only if you didn't do the PosReady registry change documented on many well-known news sites such as ZDNet, PCWorld, and Ars Technica.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\WPA\PosReady]
"Installed"=dword:00000001

More bad advice.

Windows Embedded XP is a subset of Windows XP, meaning it only contains some of XP's components, only those components receive security updates. And that too has reached End Of Life.

You're still insecure and still shouldn't be using it.

As much as I used Xp back in the day, take it from someone who's been in IT for a long time, MOVE ON. Use at least Win7 or 8. If you're gonna bitch about 8's metro UI, download and install classicshell.
