Please remove this junk from bloated alert emails

comeback 9,047 623 July 30, 2016 at 01:52 PM
Some of us get 100's of alerts every day and I just noticed that you have added lot of unnecessary junk/ self promotion to the emails
We already know how great SD is and you are preaching to the converted but just filling up our inboxes with unnecessary junk doing that.
Some of us have limited size inboxes.

Here is an example.
After a few lines of the alert information, all this crap is appended below
I didn't ask for it and I don't want it.

And please don't ask me to switch to text alerts because I do prefer to see the picture in the alert just not all this self promotional stuff

thanks

Am I the only one who has an issue with this? A single alert email is now close to 60Kb

Thanks for your feedback, but currently we dont have the ability to turn this off on a per account setting, but your request and feedback has been noted and we'll look into it.

Thanks

Does look into it translate to "not do anything about it'? Just be honest about it. There is more spam junk in the alert email than the info about the actual alert itself?
Did you ask for anyone's opinion before you changed it. let me guess, no.

Is the same spam material in text alerts as well. I guess I have no option but to switch to those.

And what good do you think this is doing to your users? They are already interested in something thats why they are subscribing for alerts. What is the point of sending them unnecessary junk they did not ask for?

I really must agree. When I set a deal alert, I'm interested in one specific item. I don't really need the email to contain "More Hot Frontpage Deals!!" because if I wanted more deals, I would just visit the front-page itself.

Please "note" my feedback as well. Thanks.

I dislike the SPAM that's now embedded with the ALERTS that I asked for. PLEASE get rid of the SPAM CRAP.

My email started picking up my deal alerts as spam. So I left it like that. I hate the new alerts.

Same happened to me, now I have to manually unflag each one of them
Not sure which genius came up with this

Yep, I hate it too. I quit looking at my SD email alerts because of it. Now I just check them from the site on my home computer, I've missed a couple of deals that way though. Annoyed

I don't have a lot of deal alerts as I don't do resales, just have a few for me, a few for DH and some stuff for the house that I would buy if the price drops. But it's still very annoying to try and view it on my phone so I gave up.

As I stated in my original reply, we don't have the ability to let you turn it off on a per account or individual basis, and we'll look into adding this functionality in the future. In the meantime, we will not be removing the related deals as the data shows that overall users are using those features without detracting from the original deal (ie users are using it and growing their usage of it).

Exactly the kind of shameless behavior expected from SD.
It is as simple as this, no one asked for this spam, sugar coat it which ever way you want

I'm not saying your complaint isn't valid (I support what you're saying) but text alerts don't have all the extra junk so you have an option at least.

If you want to save space then text alerts are the way to go too as they're much smaller than the HTML ones.

Are the pictures really worth dealing with seeing all the extra crap? Personally I prefer the text ones anyway. No ability for images means no self promotion possible.
