Hey all, this monitor just went up for sale this month on Newegg, and I bought it for $349.99. Afterwards, I was watching it again for a friend and post release sale had it at about $459.99. It is back down to $379.99 and free shipping.

Not quite as good of a deal as it was on release, but it is definitely a great monitor.

Note: Nvidia graphics card users won't be able to make use of the Free Sync, and unfortunately your equivalent is a bit pricey in the form of G-Sync. You'll have to wait until the G-Sync format dies off to make use of this or comparable Free Sync monitors.

Specs:

27 inches

2560 x 1440 (WQHD)

144 Hz refresh rate (via DVI or DisplayPort)

1 ms response time

Note: It has built in speakers, I wasn't really impressed with them. You'll need HDMI or DisplayPort to enable the sound. Using HDMI won't allow you to utilize the 144hz functionality.

Too bad now they have the whole G-Sync vs Free Sync competition because a comparable monitor with G-Sync is the ASUS ROG PG278Q but thats $670 vs this Acer with better contrast ratio for $380 its kind of like nVidia is making you pay for two monitors just to be able to use G-Sync.

The price on the comparable dell monitor is down to its lowest price on amazon $470 right now. 27", 2560x1080, 144hz, g-sync, TN. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...c__1p_2_ti

I don't see G-sync dying off, they would just lower prices if anything

Considering by any objective analysis g-sync is better, OP is an AMD fanboy. You could certainly argue the difference isn't worth the price of admission, but supply and demand is dictating otherwise. I'm only here because OPs ill-informed comment set off my g-sync alert.

as an Nvidia backer myself, I'd like to know personal opinions if gsync is worth it? at that price for the monitor however I'd expect 4k res so I may have to wait some more.

Can confirm, no VESA mount. I think the freesync range is 40-144hz, I also notice some image pulsation on desktop when apps like chrome render at a locked lower frame rate. Also viewing angles are tough to line up just Right. I'm happy with the one I own, but probably wouldn't buy it again unless in the $200s. I will say I've tried both Gsync on the 24" lil bro to this screen with a 970, and currently run this screen on an r9 290x. In my opinion, both technologies deliver on what's promised and work fairly well. Gsync is considerably more expensive due to the hardware level rights management. FreeSync is part of the VESA standard and Intel is also adopting it. Remember Betamax vs. VHS. Beta was better, but VHS had more industry support.
