seems like a good deal, but i would rather have 8GB of ram and it doesn't seem to support that.

Intel Core M processor...Yuck. I wouldn't ever pay more than $300 for something with this processor in it. It's extremely slow and you can't multi-task very much with it.

I am currently using a Portege z20t (which has an surprisingly similar design), and the only thing that is inadequate for the CPU has been compiling code. A Spring Boot web application takes more than 30 seconds to boot up, compared to around 5 seconds on my desktop using a i5 2500k. Note taking and general use have been fine.

The Skylake Core Ms are perfectly capable processors. Keep in mind as well that, just like the Core I series, there a various levels of performance - M3, M5 and M7. It was the previous gen Braswell Core Ms that got a lot of negative attention for low clock speeds and aggressive throttling issues. Unfortunately, that's the Core M we have here in the Latitude 7000. Pair that with 4GB RAM, 128GB storage and Windows 8.1 that's no longer upgradeable for free, and I can't say this is a particularly good deal at $500.

XPS12 with Core M running VMs without issue. Check your facts before you categorically discard something.

Much better than an Atom but still get excellent battery life.

Wait it out if time is on your side. Scored a refurb a few months ago w/ 8GB RAM/256GB SSD for ~$350; battery keyboard included
