Thread Details

I have a bunch of empty printer ink and toner cartridges accumulated.

Which retailer has the best recycling program?
(ie: the best points or cash back incentive)

Staples and Office Depot used to have a deal where you can turn in a small quantity of inks each month and receive reward points.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Unfortunately, the answer is "almost no one" anymore, all require some kind of purchase to be able to get recycling credit. Staples is still the best return vs purchase.

Here's a summary (someone correct me if I'm wrong for OD/OM). $2 credit per cartridge/toner at each:

- up to 10 a month for regular accounts, or 20 for Plus/Premier, but you must have purchased $30 in ink from them within the previous 6 months BEFORE recycling (you can purchase and recycle on the same day)
(maximum yearly credit is $240 with $60+ in purchases, or $480 vs $60+ for Plus/Premier)
- recently changed - now you have to purchase new ink from them in order to recycle there. (1 new purchase for each recycled cartridge).
(so return is only $2 per cartridge vs cost of purchasing any new cartridge)

Office Depot/Office Max:
- 10/month limit, as long as you've made $10 in real purchases from them during the same month that you recycle. (purchases and recycling can be done at any time during the month, one doesn't have to precede the other).
(maximum yearly credit is $240 with $120+ in purchases).
