This monopod certainly fits the bill. It's light enough to take away hiking but well constructed and a really great range of height when extended. It's not ultra compact but small enough not to be a nuisance.

And it can be used as a walking stick (maybe)! Anyone try to use carbon fiber monopods as walking sticks to go up rocks/hilly areas while hiking?

Not a good idea. Carbon fiber is more like a ceramic. It's not good with bending.
Aluminum poles and such are more resilient.

Yeah, definitely not a good idea. This monopod is only rated for 11lbs. I don't know about you, but I would definitely be pushing down more than 11lbs. Secondly, it's a pretty expensive hiking stick. Why not get some nice ones on Amazon for $30?

Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda. shake head

My 2cents........ pick up a good size stick, wack it against the near by tree. If it can withstand that smack impact, it's durable enough IMO and I use it as my walking stick. Once done, return it back to nature and say THANK YOU. Smilie
