I have McAllisters in merlot. I assume it's the same. I don't think it's ugly at all. But I do think it's sort of a dead color. No pop. Very conservative, because it just doesn't say much. But I'm good with having them. I didn't think they were ugly.
I've also purchased the Strand in oxblood. What I received in Oxblood, is what I was expecting the Merlot to be. But the Merlot is a very nice conservative color. Brown and black don't pack a lot of pop either. But I think we all have brown and black. Merlot just doesn't seem as easy to match. But then again, I can't match black pants!!
$200 for 1st quality? I'd grab them in a second.

You guys have no clue what you're talking about. Merlot is an amazing color. Pictures online don't do it justice.

I like merlot, but I don't own any in this color. I prefer oxblood, but this is a great deal.

Merlot seriously does not go well with these shoes, but that's just my crappy, unsolicited SD opinion.

who would pay that much for such and ugly out of style shoe?

The leather sole is stiff and rigid and they are meant to conform to your foot over time so there may or may not be a break-in period however, you will have to let them get acquainted with your foot.

You can get them for $157 via shoebank.com. too (but it's not first quality) and you have to call via phone.
