Decent you should say. One step ahead of the monitors but I'm literally working on upgrading my monitors to the next level from that with the RTIA line. I should have actually went to Monitor Audiio, KEF, B&M but on Amazon you'll get crazy deals. I couldn't pass up the CSI6 Center speaker brand new for $200 so basically I'm suck with that line to timber match. I'm debating on getting a brand new floorstanding RTAI5's (pair) for $220 shipped or say F it and go balls out with the R9's for $500 each because my upgrade path will be over with my Monitor 60's doing a massive overkill job on the surround rears.

I actually have the 100B's that I got from here through Adorama a few months ago for cheap because I thought I couldn't pass it up but I couldn't tell you the difference between them and my Monitor 30's besides the little bit better construction and different design and not that much of an upgrade from that line.

So right now you could get R5's and and a CSI6 Center which blows the living fuc* out of my old CS1 it's not even funny and it's not even broken in yet for $440 new as you always need to check out Amazon's used page for resellers and of course Polk has a famous Ebay store where their refurbs are cheap also. You wouldn't really need a new receiver jumping up to the RTAI unless you get the 9's so I would stay away from this and work your way up or jump on a some better speakers.

If this had a powered sub I'd buy it to replace my JBLs.

Got it!

How would the Yamaha RX-A1040 power these? Or would another receiver be preferable?

Anyone recommend a couple of subwoofers and 2 other speakers (more Polk Audio TSx? 110b's?) for a 7.2 set?

If their home audio is the same quality as car audio I'd probably skip these.
I've bought Polk speakers for a vehicle on 2 occasions. Both times they have had issues within a year.

They're just cheap, large speakers.

If you live in a decent sized metro area you can almost always find speaker sets of this caliber on craigslist for cheap as people move/downsize/have kids/etc and decide to dump them.

They'll blow away nearly any sound bar or home theater in a box.

They'll play loud (and with a sub) have decent dynamic range and will sound great to your noob ears. In fact, 99.9% of people would be better off with bookshelf speakers in front+ subwoofer versus the towers in front and no sub. When you add a subwoofer, small towers like this become irrelevant.

To really move into the next price/quality range of speaker, you're looking at this price range ($4-500) for just a pair of bookshelf speakers, with a 5-speaker set like this costing several thousand.

If you really want to never be satisfied, go listen to some speakers in a hi-end boutique store where the cheapest pair they have is $500. If they're not busy and you're nice, they'll probably let you listen to a $10-20,000 pair of speakers (and amplifier). It will sound like you're in the recording studio with the artist.

Would be interested to see how these compare to the Pioneer set designed by Andrew Jones (the SP-PK52FS 5.1 system). That set, with a decent sub, runs about $550 normally, but can be found for sale in the $400 range - system without sub is $444 on Amazon at the moment. I got my set, with sub included, for $454 around Christmas 2014. That's the set I have and I love it, and by basically every account I've seen on the internet, its the best system in that price range. To do better, you need to spend well over $1000.

How do these speakers compare with this setup quality wise?

Klipsch

RF-82 (2 floor standing front speakers)
RC-62 (center)
RS-52 (2 rear speakers)
RW-12d (sub)

Do I need a higher end receiver to properly power these or can I even get away with a lower end receiver? I don't know anything about pairing receivers with speakers.
