Convert Starpoints and earn 20% bonus miles
Convert your Starwood Preferred Guest Starpoints® to American Airlines AAdvantage® miles and earn a 20% bonus from August 1 – September 14, 2016.

Plus, if you convert 20,000 points in one transaction, Starwood automatically adds a 5,000 bonus.

Example
Your 20,000 Starpoints® convert to 20,000 AAdvantage® miles (20,000 miles total)
When you convert 20,000 points, Starwood adds a 5,000 point bonus (25,000 miles total)
You earn 20% bonus miles on your conversion (20% of 25,000 = 5,000; 30,000 miles total)

great value if you need to top up your AA balance and don't have much use for the SPG points..
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

Starwood points are the most useful points. I booked recently $400 hotel for only 10000 points in NYC. It can also transfer to many airlines miles, to keep the mileage alive. I would feel 20% is not the best deal.

On the other hand, it will largely devalue if it merges with marriott points. So this is a way to dump if you have no use of it.

Agreed, but many of us have Hyatt points via UR and need a way to unload SPG points before any deval, i am going to xfer some AA and keep some SPG, between me and SO we have around 180k SPG definitely won't be able to use them all in the next 2yrs, so might as well get the most of it....

How long does it take for the points to transfer to AAdvantage? I just transfered some for a trip to Japan but it's been 30 minutes and they have not posted.

So the AA landing page mentions the 20% but once I am at the SPG area there is no mention of the bonus 20%. The 5K pts will apply but how do i know the other will post?

when you transfer 1s and 0s to a foreign bank as currency it's not instant, the exchange rate has to be verified and people have to make their commission. it takes more than 30 mins

you can search on aa.com, just select the "Redeem Miles" checkbox while searching for award flights.
