Well, that really depends on the laptop. But, if your lappy has a 2.5" HDD, then this will almost certainly fit. Also, drive height is only 7mm; so, this SSD will fit both, 7mm & 9mm tall caddies.

I had assumed that your Dell hd is equal or smaller than 480gb. If it's more than 480gb then use Macrum Reflect free. I used both with no problem on win10.

It is actually a 2TB 5400rpm disk. It is coming brand new in a couple of weeks but the old guy it is for prolly wants the OS, etc. same as from factory with all of the Dell crap.

Create an image with windows then restore to the new drive.

If the laptop comes with a recovery disk of some sort, that's probably easiest. Just put in the new empty drive and "recover" everything to it.

I would use macrium. It worked great for me.
