I just returned this model yesterday. The compressor is extremely loud. The fan is average but when ever it starts cooling it sounds like a moped engine. I would wait another year or two until they put in higher end parts. Also the app stop connecting and I had to reboot the Ac once a week. I would avoid but for this price it might be a good one for an office or bathroom where the noise isn't as much of a problem. Great feature set of schedules will be greatly missed.

I'm tempted to buy one of these. I live in a studio with central air, but with central air on for the majority of the day, my electricity bill is silly.

I only use the AC (central air) because my girlfriend cannot stand the room higher than 80*...

Ideal temp is around 68 for sleeping. I don't like it that cold in the summer but you actually sleep better when it is a bit cool.

Another option is the Danby 8000 BTU at in-store Costco for $189 (with longer warranty/return). I got a Frigidaire 10000 BTU in my bed room. And it's noisy like hell.

This looks exactly like the unit I have in an outbuilding (also have 12,000 Frigidaire in home)-----been there now into 5th season------no problems thus far--------IMO, Frigidaire window unit is the way to go, and getting it at this price would be a bargain to me--------most anything is possible, but difficult to imagine not being satisfied w/ this unit. Repped, OP>

I just replaced a 7 y/o Sharp 10,000 BTU and replaced with the same size Frigidaire (looks like the one pictured). The front panel is different from the Sharp but the case and insides look the same machine. Sharp remote works with the Frigidaire, as well. Are lots of these build in the same place?

Friedrichs used to be manufactured in Texas. They moved to Mexico. Several of their models have a very similar "face" to the Sharp that I just replaced.
