What do you guys think of this deal for someone new to DSLR preparing to take picture of a new born in 2-3 months?

Is 150 dollars a reasonable expectation from sale of 2 lenses on Craigslist.

There are a myriad of camera and camera/lens combos that work great for new borns. DSLRs are the classic, somewhat cost effective route but there are micro/mirrorless options that also do wonders.

The D5500 is the mid-to-upper level consumer DSLR that has a few more bells and whistles than the base model nikon DSLRs. Since you have 2-3 months I personally would hold out for a deal on the older or lower end models for your first DSLR as those refurb kits can be had for <$350, or even less used on craigslist. Learn on something cheap, so you can later better appreciate/learn the true value of higher end bodies/lenses. You could even buy just a cheap DSLR body, then find an "all purpose" zoom - an 18-250 or 18-300mm, so you aren't constantly switching lenses. Then later you can grab a 35 or 50mm prime lens for those "pro" shots with all that bokeh. Nikon or Canon are the best choices but Sony is starting to join that elite pack. The D5500 does have a pretty awesome wifi connectivity (download shots to your smart phone!).

Check the recently sold prices on eBay for each of the two lenses. You can often get 20-40% more for your lens when you sell on eBay than locally on clist.

A slick deal, but not as slick as Best Buy's price mistake add in January for a new one:

It will work nice and invest in 35mm prime lens. That's fast and sharp lens and would help for indoor pics. Also get one reflector -

This combo should be as low as $350 (That's right) by now and they are too late. To many newer and better cameras will soon be upon us. Yet they will all be missing something major; par for the course.

Micro 4/3rds is not the way. At least not yet. Mirror-less offerings unfortunately aren't finished. Yet, DSLR's still have other disadvantages. You will forever have inferior "passable" IQ on m43; until sensors improve several steps SOME TIME in the future. It depends on the kind of photographer you are. I prioritize IQ and results. Small size; but not as much. Overall system costs also. I could waste cash on the high end(FF etc); but choose not to; due to over-sizes. It's all balance. If you don't like mine then find your own. You'll learn.

Thanks for sharing your wish, my wish is to get this for free, what else is better than free, well realistically speaking $450 sounds like a better price to wish for, u can find nikon 3300 canon t5 depending on what features you are looking for.
