This has been the normal price since inception for prime members, and was a FP deal when it came out. http://slickdeals.net/f/8881879-prime-members-unlocked-smartphones-w-ads-blu-r1-hd-from-50-moto-g-4th-gen-from-125-more-free-s-h?src=SiteSearch

I do have a question, though, which wasn't answered (or had mixed answers) in that long thread. I'm on Prime trial, for which the deal isn't available. If I do a one month paid extension, can I get this phone for the $60 prime price? Some in that thread said "newly monthly" members couldn't get it.

Bought two and sent both back..crappy speaker (speaker phone too) with callers complaining (me too). If in a quiet environment, it's passable, but everything else (like in a car), it's bad. I tried various app, but no luck. The ZMAX2 is a overall better phone and the same price of $59.99 at BestBuy or Walmart` (both will price match).

The sound probably IS the weakest aspect of this phone, but it's not too bad. The XMAX2 at bestbuy is AT&T only so not interesting to me. Also, it says it's Lollipop. The nice thing about the Blu is that I've unlocked the bootloader, installed twrp, rooted it, and installed xposed and gravitybox. Hell of a deal for $60 with 2 GB memory and 16 GB storage and Marshmallow, but to each, their own.

Sure, but since then the phone got its own forum on xda so the threads were moved and their are easier methods. Just check out the xda forums for this model here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/r1-hd

Because of the mediatek processor, it was different from the other phones I've worked on that were all qualcomm. Different tools, but it turned out to be pretty easy and doesn't require getting an unlock key and ending the warranty, like with motorola. Not to mention that the prime versions of the Moto G4 does NOT quaify for bootloader unlocking so there is little you can do with them.

The Blu R1 HD has been amazingly smooth and keeps many apps in memory - which was a big problem on my old Motorola G XT1045. I wish it had a better speaker, but, for $60, WOW! I use mine on t-mobile so I am hoping that they follow through with the band 12 upgrade that they have on the phone's homepage. But, even without band 12, the phone works fine for me.

some claim some success at boosting volume using MTK Engineering Mode app

Instead of normal mode I changed it in the loudspeaker mode which seemed to work better.

sure, she can buy the phone and give it to you. it won't even be tied to her account.
or she can add you to her household account. she is allowed 2 adults at her address. you need to create your own account name and password, enter your own credit card. it will have to ship to girlfriends address though. that way, you can buy 2!
