How does SC-95 competes with Denon X4200 or Onkyo RZ-900?

both the Denon and Onkyo are 7.2...the pioneer is 9.2

i was looking for a 9.2 under $1000

I'm an Onkyo guy (last 4 receivers), this will be my first Pioneer.

I've had this receiver for 5 months in an 11.1(7.1.4) configuration. the sound is notably clearer than my 5.1 Yamaha. My only complaint is that it is slow to switch between HDMI ports and they haven't yet released the firmware for dts:x support. Great overall receiver that meets all new standards including HDR.

Sound & Vision reviewed this unit and it got a great review, if you are going for Atmos & DTSX 4 overhead speakers will provide a better effect than 2, the Onkyo can't do 4 overheads and the Denon will required a external amp, for a all in one solution the SC-95 is th ed ticket.

Since early 90s I was using top of the line Pioneer receivers, because these always sounded the best in store where tested. I ran Pioneer calibration, followed different web advice about the setup and was never trully happy with the sound. Two years ago I decided to give Denon X5200W a shot and men what a difference it made. Receiver sounded better even straight out of the box, without any calibration.
I have simple 5.1 setup plus 2 speakers outside and use MartinLogan speakers. Movies/ music ratio is 80/20.

Just my 2 cents...

Agree, I was happy with my last few pioneer receivers until I got a Marantz. I got burned by the lack of hdcp 2.2 even though it said 4K and pass through. Never again will I even consider anything Pioneer. Even at the open box prices, depending on the speaker configuration you need/desire, the Marantz sr6010 (soon to be replaced by the 6011) is leagues above the Pioneer.

Did you ever own an Elite SC series before though? I agree that Pioneers tend to be cheaper and offer more features at the cost of sound quality, but supposedly the Pioneer amps are top notch in this line of receiver, even compared to simliar Marantz, Yamaha, and Denon models

I was considering this until I found out it won't output HDMI connected sources for multi-zone and there are NO analog inputs either.

Do any manufacturers have in-app config so you don't have to fight with the horrible on-screen configs with remote or prompts on the one-line receiver screens? Thanks.

To be honest I didn't even use the app until after setup because the gui of the Marantz was top notch. I couldn't believe how easy and responsive, detailed it was.
