Now: US $499.99

Quote from the terms of sale on eBay:

Items from the following categories may not be returned: Notebooks, Netbooks, Tablets, iPads and Computers cannot be returned or exchanged once opened or unwrapped.

IMO, not a reputable business EEK!

Returned the best buy one that was 300 that had 720p and only 4gb. This is worth it to me for the extra 4gb and 1080 plus no tax. Thanks OP

Anyone know the build quality of these units? I'm tired of seeing all the flimsy cases most of these entry or midrange come with. I'm hoping to find something more solid, and I don't care if it weighs a little more.

Also, is Acer any better than they used to be? Their standards used to be on the low side.

Edit: have you seen their return policy? One, you have to pay return shipping, which I guess is fairly standard. Two, there is a 15% re-stocking fee. Three, and most importantly: "Notebooks, Netbooks, Tablets, iPads and Computers cannot be returned or exchanged once opened or unwrapped".

I think that last one could be a deal killer for me

Also, after reading a few things on Amazon about it, it seems that it does not have a replaceable battery and that the advertised DVD drive is really a dummy.

That stuff is BS. If the item is defective, I will open up a claim with ebay and they will side with the buyer. I don't plan on returning it unless it is. I think the battery is replaceable but it is not easy, i.e. you have to open up the unit. The 15% restocking is understandable as they are not a big retailer.

probably like that.

After purchasing the 940mx Acer on Amazon and seeing that the models are nearly identical, I might be able to answer a few questions. Now mine is same processor, but better internals.... Build quality is great for a plastic laptop and I can say, after using both, that its better than a Dell Inspiron 5000 series laptop. Also mine is really quiet... DVD drive does work on mine at least (no dummy) and the battery can be replaced but you're going to have to open up the laptop. At this price range, the only laptop that would have an external battery would be an HP I believe.

For the price of these, its not bad. One thing though, I recommend reinstalling windows 10 fresh. The amount of crapware Acer ships with these machines is laughable. Plus the anniversary update just came out so its worthwhile to have a fresh install.

Neither the eBay listing, nor Acer's page [acer.com] mention any sort of optical drive, so I'm guessing no DVD drive or CD drive. Common in lightweight machines. However, the Acer page does list the package contents:
Aspire E5-575-51GG Notebook
Lithium Ion Battery
AC Adapter

Which at least implies that the battery is a separate item from the notebook itself.

EDIT: The Acer page specifically says no optical drive:
Optical Drive Type No

Makes sense, but they never include an installation disc anymore, so how would you reinstall windows? Sorry if this is a stupid question

I think you should report the OP to SD for rounding it up a whole penny. Yep, that's what you should do.
