I don't see the 6tb drive for $179 in today's ad, and Aug 6 promo code doesn't work on it.

OP has not been very accurate lately.

The Patriot SSD also involves a $15 mail-in rebate which is not noted in the post.

Code doesn't work on the SSD either. I beginning to wonder if the OP is OK. It's very uncharacteristic of him to make so many errors.

I see the Patriot Pyro SSD priced about the same after Rebate than the Blaze. Has much better reviews.

The initial price is $65 though...any issues with Patriot rebate?

my emailed promo code doesn't work for item either. very weird

Edit: apparently if you use in-store pick-up the promo code doesn't get applied until you pick up the order since you aren't actually paying for the item online.

I did a 960GB Patriot rebate that I purchased from Fry's , I got confirmation email from them that my rebate was approved within a week of mailing it off.

The promo code should work online and show you the discount from prior deals I've done, you're right about them not charging you until you get there. I was also able to go right to the store grab an item off the shelf and goto the register and give them my promo code if you don't want to wait for them to email you your pickup is ready.

Nope, did 2 Patriot rebates at Fry's a couple months ago.

The 120GB Patriot Blaze kinda sucks in performance, partly or mostly due to the DRAM-less Phison S9 chipset (unless they updated to using the Phison S10, but I didn't see anyone mention that from a Google search). The 240GB+ Blaze uses Phison S8 with DRAM cache.

The Pyro was one of my first SSDs and is an old model, 6+ years old at this point. They used to have Pyro (Asynchronous NAND) and Pyro SE (sychronous NAND). Then Patriot got out of the SSD business for a while, and I guess they brought the Pyro back when they re-entered. It uses old Sandforce chipset, which is the kind that needs compressible data to perform well. No idea what MLC the new Pyro uses (i.e. whether it's like the old Pyro SE with synchronous NAND) or how it performs, as it seemed nobody bothered re-reviewing the new Pyro.

I'd get the Pyro over the Blaze, but more sales tax due to higher before-rebate price.

ignite > pyro > blast > blaze
