Can somebody help me with the flight saving tactics. I am looking for a roundtrip from US to China or HK for around October 10th. I want to get the best pricing from airlines, when is the best time to search for flights? Now?

right now actually - 2-3 months before your trip is usually the sweet spot for the average fare - not for slickdeals though. There were plenty of great deals to HK about 2-3 months ago. I snagged a $337 RT from NYC to Hong Kong for Nov 20-Dec 20, and there were plenty of fares available for October too. "From US" is also pretty broad. You will see a variance of $200-400 in difference based on origin from west coast or east coast, and departure airports matter too, especially into Hong Kong. NYC, SFO, and LAX will always have better deals then San Diego, Detroit, or Baltimore as an example.

I am leaving from the Pensacola, Florida area. So far $750 but to Canton airport vs Hong Kong. I kind of want to be in hong kong for a few days personally for a conference.

Set up alerts on tripadvisor, kayak, airfarewatchdog and be ready to jump if something is in range. I always look at http://matrix.itasoftware.com/ even though I can't buy air from them. It gives me a good idea of whether a round trip into Canton or Hong Kong would be cheaper or if I would be better off going into one airport and out of the other and whether switching airlines would be a better deal. Like KeanKeeks, I bought a couple of months ago for a March trip. I find that sweet spot by advance planning as soon as I know when and where I plan to go.

Right about now. I always keep an eye on theflightdeal.com for cheap international fares from major cities.

I recommend Ctrip for Chinese flights. I think you can book from 3 months in advance. But because now is August and you should buy ticket soon. And I know Oct,1-8th is Chinese Festival. So what you choose Oct 10th is correct.
