Scottrade just redesigned their site and is offering money and free trades (depending on how much you put in your account) for new and existing customers.

For reference, each trade on scottrade is about $7, so 50 free trades amounts to $350, if you do the minimum $10,000 deposit. Incentives increase from there.

If you trade a lot like I do, this is free money.

You must maintain in the Registered Account an amount (minus trading and market volatility losses) equal to the sum of the balance of the Registered Account on the Registration Date, plus the amount of Net Deposits on which Scottrade paid you a cash bonus, at all times for at least one year after the Registration Date, or Scottrade may charge back any unqualified benefits. “Registration Date” is the date the eligible Account is registered and “Net Deposits” are Eligible Funds deposited into the Registered Account during the Funding Period, minus Eligible Funds withdrawn from the Registered Account during the Funding Period.
Commission-free trades may only be executed in the Registered Account and must be used within 90 days of being made available in the Registered Account, subject to a maximum of 50 commission-free trades, inclusive of commission-free trade credits in the Registered Account as of the Registration Date. Please allow up to three (3) business days from the date of a qualifying deposit for the benefits of this Offer to be available in the Registered Account. You will not receive any compensation for unused commission-free trades. Only orders for equities priced above $1, exchange-traded funds or options orders that are placed on-line through Scottrade.com, Scottrade trading platforms and/or Scottrade Mobile are eligible. All other fees and costs, including options per-contract, exercise, assignment and regulatory fees, still apply. Trades partially executed over multiple trading days are subject to commission charges for each trading day. Your Scottrade® Brokerage Account Agreement applies to all deposits and commission-free trades.

you are better off opening an account at Interactive broker, scottrade fees will kill you. if you are a beginner stick with robinhood

Actually, IB will kill you in fees if you aren't a frequent trader. IB requires you to make multiple trades each month or else they charge you fees. Scottrade does not charge any setup, inactivity or annual maintenance fees.

yes IB is more for day traders but if u are stepping into trading world I think one should start with robinhood to get the feel of it or if you want to day trade you can look into ustocktrade.com. it's either those two or go big with IB
