deal is warm at best. 20% would have been ideal but still not a bad deal for those looking to save some $ on some of these lens. The good part is you get a 1/yr warranty and most of the lens are almost if not new. Personally picked up a 70-200 f4 IS and 17-55mm f2.8 during the last 20% off deal few weeks ago (July 4th or so).

How do you like the 70-200? I keep telling myself to hold out for the 2.8, but the f4s are so cheap now

Depends on what you will use it for. I have the f4 IS but wish I had gotten the 2.8 just for the background blur that it provides for portraits. It is quite heavy though so it depends. I can shoot all day with my 6D, battery grip and 70-200 f4.

17-40 for almost $500!? My whole Canon T3I did not cost that...and not even new at that?! SOME people take photography a little too serious than I ever thought a person could!?

How much was the 17-55mm then? Can't believe I missed it.

The lens can be more important than the body (person behind camera is usually most important). These aren't even that expensive relative to professional cameras and lens.

For some people the body and kit lens is enough. Others outgrow it, learn to use camera better and decide to upgrade the lens.

Do you use your camera outside of automatic or scene mode?

The more research you do, the more you'll find out that all lenses are not created equal. There's a reason you can pick up a 70-300mm lens for $300 but pay 6 times that for a 70-200mm. It's not all about focal length or even aperture. As DrunkenSoul said, it has a lot to do with the photographer but mediocre glass/lenses will produce some pretty mediocre results and is definitely much more important than the body in terms of image quality.

Either way, good deal on those lenses.

I never trust myself out of Auto. I've been "into" photography since 60's. My first "shoot" was the Monkees at the Stadium in 1966.

I wish I stayed down this path. Years later and I am running full frame and have a trinity of primes. Still saving for the next lens (135mm f2)

I was pretty happy with my rebel and 18-135mm

Should I get 85mm f/1.8 or 50mm f/1.4? I currently have 50mm f/1.8.

I like the 70-200mm f4 because it is light and easier than the 2.8 version.
