it would be nice to know if there will be any other deals (on specific items) that might make this sweeter.

You get to keep the gift card. It's a glitch in the Target system, but don't tell anyone about it.

You don't have to return the whole amount as earlier. But prorated amount is deducted from your refund.

As I mentioned previously, the phone activation must be completed first.

The $100 gift card is given to you after the phone is activated. The $200 trade in gift card requires the IMEI of the newly activated phone.

To answer your question, no, you would not be able to use the gift cards on the 2-year subsidized price.
SO If I want to buy the phone outright I get no trade in credit and no 100 gift card. But If I sign a 2 year contract, pay on an installment plan, and pay the activation charge (which is BS because we all know when you buy a device outright on at&t you just take the sim out of your old phone and put it in the new one and you are good to go, activation charge is a scam fee basicly, or only good on new line when they need to give you a new sim).

So again, to get the 200 trade in credit and $100 target gift card I have to pay a $40 activation fee, Lock myself in to a 2 year contract and pay for the phone monthly even though
I have the money to buy it outright?
That is a scam in my opinion.
Reward those who really can not afford the phone and want to pay for it over time, but tell the people who saved already for it and just want to buy it and pop a sim card in it,. NO deals for you.

Okay so if I buy the baby goods not talking annoy phones, and I then return it, is the amount deducted from the gift card, or do I get the full $100 and still keep the gift card?

its prorated, in the receipt you can see for each amount what is the refund value.
if you need entire $100 then you need to return all items including GC.
