Bought this back in June for my gf and we have no complaints. Screen isn't great but isn't bad either. Everything else is solid. Palm rest can be a bit of a fingerprint magnet. Has 1x8gb so you can slot in another 8gb. SSD is m.2 so there is an empty bay for a storage drive.

Been posted here a few times and has been $550 for a while now but usually doesn't get much love

Decent desktop-replacement laptop, good for high school or college students on a budget.

Screen is 1080p, but it's kind of fuzzy and the viewing angle is subpar. Then again, it's $550.

Very good speed, even good enough for light video encoding. Speaker loud enough for
classrooms.

Weights like a brick, but that's also to be expected for a desktop replacement machine.
Actually, I loved the weight, which makes it a very solid machine to type page after page.

IMHO, it deserves a 7 out of 10.

By the way, it has always been $550 since it showed up on Amazon. Back when it was
on pre-order, Amazon already priced it at $550.

I know. But from last month, this model was not available in Amazon nut was available in Newegg at $560. I have mentioned that price only. I said $10 cheaper than the last Newegg deal.

FYI, same laptop with 1TB HDD instead of 256GB SSD is currently $490 at Newegg [newegg.com] (was $485 after PayPal checkout coupon over a weeks ago).

I bought that one thinking that the cost of upgrading to a 256GB SSD (m.2 or mSATA) + spare 1GB HDD is cheaper than the $60 price difference (plus Newegg is tax-free for me while Amazon isn't so another $40+ difference). Not likely I'll do the upgrade since the laptop is not for me Big Grin

For me, the 1080p TFT LCD is pretty good compared to my 2 other TFT 768p Acers from 2010 and other "crap screen" laptops I've owned. I've never owned a laptop (since 2000) with IPS screen so there's nothing else to compare to. Vertical viewing angle (discolorization, polarization) is pretty bad, noticably worse than my old Acers but I can get used to that.

Acer has a history of overstating laptop weight -- my HDD Acer weigh 4.74 lb so this SSD version should be a little less (2010 Acer was spec'ed at 6.2 lb but actually 5.7 lb). Doesn't matter for me as they are desktop alternatives on a desk and plugged in 100% of the time (haven't used desktops as main PC for over a decade so it's not a "desktop replacement" for me). Being heavier can potentially mean more sturdy case and hinges, compared to some manufacturers (Asus) that strip weight so they stand out in spec comparisons.

This isn't a hot deal. It's always $550 on Amazon. I've been waiting for a drop (and missed yesterday's).
FYI your title says 940M instead of 940MX.
