Heat dissipation is the big gain for me and just ruggedness in general. With that in mind, I would buy and use this switch in a heartbeat for $10. It's a great switch for the price.

Can someone more computer savvy explain the use scenario for these? I have a router and cable modem setup at home with a microcell tower and a Roku plugged into the router directly. Would I benefit from using a switch?

Your router usually has 4 ports. This switch uses one of those 4 ports to give you 4 more ports, so now you have 7 instead of 4 (three directly on the router and four on the switch.) You can also run a long wire from the router to the switch, thereby giving you 3 ports in the room with the router, and 4 ports in the other room.

you use a switch when you ran out of ports on your router. so let's say you have 6 lan device and only 4 ports on a router. etc

Sweet deal! I just picked up one. Never a bad idea to have a spare gb switch around. Never know when you will need one.
