how do you "hand craft" billions of planets?
I played some and was bored within two hours. Shooting at the environment to mine materials, spending WAY too much time looking at the inventory screen, etc., and really nothing interesting.

While it sounds neat that there's an endless universe to explore, it's so empty and boring. The moment-to-moment gameplay just isn't satisfying.

I went in expecting this to be a survival games of sorts, and it is, but it's a pretty barren one with no hook. I spent more time in the inventory than actually playing, and I think that I had more fun shuffling around my inventory and getting rid of things than the rest of the game...
I have never seen such cautious initial reviews. After reading several early impressions, I think this game is going to fall out around 7 out of 10. Good indie game with unique elements, and some shortcomings in other areas. Seems to be universally praised for its presentation and scope, at least initially. Most reviewers admit that after going to several worlds it become repetitive. . .repeat biomes with different pallets. Creatures using same mix and match body parts, etc. NPC interactions is generally not favorable. Gameplay of ship and character are ok, but inventory management appears to be universally disliked. BUT, almost every review mentions that the game is relaxing, like just going around a world exploring, etc. or that even though they have criticism of the game, they feel desire to go back and play some more.

EDIT: 4.5/10. Do not buy at this price.

Good price but expect this to drop in price quickly. I will probably get for around $50 later today with GCU @Best Buy, but the review mostly sound like this should have been a retail $49.99 game. Most initial reviews are very similar saying amazing visuals and scope but with repetitive survival/foraging elements. Just my opinion from what's been posted and YMMV on the experience.

Follows the trend of every other release this year, buy it a month later for 30. However, I've watched 1 video and figured out the gameplay. Its mostly newbies without realistic expectations that want something other than what this game is. Universe explorer simulator 2016

NMS is an ambitious game that would have been great had it released last generation. But at this point it's a glorified space Minecraft. You spend most of the time flying from one big circle to the next big circle literally shooting at rocks.

No thanks, every review I've read (including IGN and GameSpot) say they're not really liking the game after a short amount of time. Only one out of the 10 reviews I've seen actually seem to like the game, and even then they're still not insanely happy with it.

It worse than minecraft..

LoL anyone thought this would be some awesome ground breaking game. When they were hyping the game 2 things stood out.

1) Not really multiplayer (Studio too cheap to support this)
2) Procedural generated worlds (Studio too cheap to hand craft each world so they hype up a system that can do something better than handcrafted)

The best comment I saw for the game described it as "a mile wide, but an inch deep" in terms of game content. This should have been a $30 game, not $60 title reserved for AAA titles.

you don't you make 100 great planets instead of million crappy ones where people get bored after an hour like the game is now.
