Short answer - yes you need other speakers.

Longer answer - All Dolby Atmos modules utilize a Dolby licensed crossover which is abnormal to what a typical front, surround or center channel speaker would have. These are made for a specific purpose, to produce highly reflective sound characteristics that diffuse above the listener. They are not a good solution for a traditional speaker layout. These would be best suited sitting on top of bookshelf or tower speakers.

answer to you question, in short: you will need other speakers

in long:

these are upward firing speakers for a 5.1.2, 7.1.2, or many other iterations (5.1.4, 7.1.4)

the .2 and .4 being these speakers

they are specifically made for Atmos effects,

i guess you could use them... but your setup would look strange with these speakers mounted at funny angles...and the frequency response may not be good as fronts or surrounds

you could go with a set like this, cheap...but does the job to start you out:

https://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-NS-SP1800BL-5-1-Channel-Theater-Speaker/dp/B001AVRD62/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UT... [amazon.com]

then later on upgrade speakers as funds become available

These seem to be shaped like my pioneer fs-52 speakers. So these would just sit on top of my speakers? Or do i need to place on a high shelf?

I bought these on amazon for $100 when they were on sale. This is the lowest price I've seen for them from a reputable seller. they sit on top of your front speakers and provide an over head sound effect by reflecting sound off the ceiling. They work fairly well but not as well as built in ceiling speakers which many of us don't want to deal with for obvious reasons. You do need an Atmos receiver for this to work. Also only certain blu rays have an atmos sound track to have the intended effect. If you play a standard bluray with standard soundtrack (DTS HD MA for example) sound will play out of these for ambient sound effects. Overall worth it if you have an atmos receiver and don't have super high ceilings.

Can I stick these speakers to the sealing and use these as height speakers?
Or it only works as add-on speakers?

I have traditional 3.1 setup with a pair of full-range front speakers. Can I simply add these two to the setup up?

That'll work fine, they're just regular speakers shaped to fire upwards. you'd have to figure out a way to attach them. easier to just use in ceiling speakers IMO

I bought those speakers about 2 months ago when Meh had a similar sale. I can't say that I notice a huge difference in sound. But I don't have any Blu-ray with Atmos audio track. So can't really test them yet. Just relying on my Denon AVR-4200W receiver to put them to good use when it converts 5.1 to 5.1+Atmos. Definitely not worse Smilie
