Thread Details

I recently got a Chase Sapphire (with the 50K bonus points) and am now looking to book a trip. The points I have won't cover the round trip cost, but I can afford to just buy the ticket straight up (probably why they gave me a Sapphire card...).

My question in thinking about this, is what the general consensus is on when do you use your points vs just buying the ticket? and does it ever make sense to use points and pay the difference?

thanks!

Points are more valuable when converted to miles and then used to book reward flights...you can easily extract more than the 1.25 cents/point that Chase offers.

Where are you flying to/from?

What are your dates?

Flying economy/business/first?

Do you have status on any airlines/are you trying to achieve or maintain status on any airline?

Need more details to tell you best use of points cash.
