Thought I read something about Comcast no longer supporting this modem so they won't activate it with their service. Anyone know if there's any truth to this?

See this link [xfinity.com]from comcast, says "Only purchased SB6121 retail devices will continue to be activated on our network. The Comcast leased version of this device will no longer be activated."

So you should be fine.

I was using an SB6121 modem with Comcast and one day back in July, it stopped working altogether. I called up Comcast and explained that it was my own modem ad they said that it is no longer supported, regardless if it's leased or owned. That is my experience anyway. It may be regional. I am in Minneapolis, MN.

I went with an SB6183 and it's been working great since.

Is the SB6141 better? I might get that since I can get it for $35 with my $40 off Groupon credit on Google Express.

Yes, double the speed. A little more future proof due to higher bandwith possibility. The extra $10 investment is probably worthwhile.
