If your Brother Inkjet says out of ink.....Dont buy more!!! Save $$ on ink!
I was sick and tired of getting ripped off by Brother for inkjet ink. The fact is, Brother INTENTIONALLY DESIGNED THEIR PRINTERS TO WASTE INK, AND NOT FUNCTION WHEN ANY ONE COLOR IS LOW (including scan and fax). Well, i was sick of it, so i did some googling, and found that if you put black electric tape over the two really deep dips in the back end of the cartridge, the machine will think that the inks are full, allowing you to use your machine in just B&W mode forever.
I just did it and it worked.
People are throwing these machines away cause they cant buy more ink for them!
Someone will say this is not a hot deal. Well OK, if it's not, please move it to the section on slickdeals for how to avoid getting raped by manufacturers, and my apologies.
I am so disappointed in bother for their lapsed in judgment with Their INK GREED. I could say more but they KNOW. Thanks OP I will try this......My brother has been DEAD for over a year b/c of my stance against INK!!!!!!!!!!!!
Most printers come with 1/2 filled cartridges nowadays
maybe inkjets yes..but tell me how many laser printers you see come with half-filled carts? Not many...and they go like up to 1500 pages anyway or something..so that's enough time until another FAR deal pops up
I've been doing (sort of) the same thing with lazer printers for years..
just curious, how do you do it with a laser? I've got a MF4150 (luckily it lets me print when the toner is "out," so whatever. . . then again, it won't receive faxes and doesn't go into power saver mode anymore)--I only found two (or maybe three) contacts on the toner cart, and I'm completely stumped as to how it figures how much toner use is left. I suspect it uses something other than the standard EEPROM candidates.
I don't think the ink wasting thing is just with the Brothers--it's with all inkjets, which is why I don't dare touch them anymore. With all the ink you've paid for on your inkjet, I'm pretty sure you could have bought a nice color laser instead--then do refills on those, which work much better, and you're good to go.
Anyway, I took apart (a couple) of inkjets before since I was modifying it for a project of mine. This particuarl one was an Epson C84--there is an ENORMOUS ink sponge on the bottom of the printer, which basically soaks up ink that gets pumped out of the ink tanks every time it starts up, shuts down, starts printing, or cleans the ink carts. Inkjet technology just clogs up so often that it's gotta waste 50% of the ink before anything useful happens. . .I exchanged the sponge out for a bottle for this project, and after just a couple of power cycles there was already a couple of mLs of ink in the bottle.
