WAT? There's no reason this box can't handle 1080p/140/2048p h264, it even does 1080p HEVC fairly well. It's light years more capable than a Chromebit by every performance metric.

yes, it will run any Linux variant - see my website, https://mrchromebox.tech

it sure does, as long as you don't need 4K or 3D ISO support

no idea what that is, but if it has a linux or web client then yes.

it's one of the best low-cost devices available.

Just to let everyone know, this chromebox is one of the chromeOS devices slated to recieve android app support within the next couple months! The more popular Asus CHROMEBOX-M004U will not be receiving android app support because it's so old.

I'm personally buying this to be used for my parents. My mom liked using my chromebook. I recommend getting the logitech t650 trackpad too for those page back/forward swipe gestures! This trackpad can be brough refurbished on ebay for $15.

Last time it was on sale for $120.

At first, I was going to rail on it for having a wired keyboard/mouse....until I realized it was a lenovo, which means it's meant to businesses.

Streaming HD 1080p isn't going to be the cleanest, as this will seemingly compare with a chromebit, but for this value....GREAT price. For those who don't know why you'd buy one of these....think about your bedroom. Let's assume you don't have a smart TV. This > Roku, as it's the Chrome browser, so you obviously can do anything with it.

OR, for me, I gave my grandma my chromebit for Mother's day and now she can view photos in her emails on a 32 inch TV with such clarity compared to her 17 inch monitor or a 9 inch iPad.

What's the process to get Linux and Kodi set up? The wiki for the Asus box says you have to open the case and modify something. Do you have to modify something in the hardware for this machine?

the process is common to all ChromeOS devices - you need to remove the firmware write-protect screw in order to either set the firmware boot flags for the stock firmware (to change boot priority or timeout) or to flash my custom firmware.

https://mrchromebox.tech has a much better overview of how ChromeOS devices work from the factory and how they can be tweaked. The Kodi links are more of a DIY instructions with less background info
