What's the best deal for a Prepaid cell phone? I don't want to spend much monthly

Hardly going to use minutes or anything.
I want texts and be able to check weather apps, possibly.
Camera will be on the phone.

It's for my father and he already has another phone but its an old work phone. He wants to receive texts from my sister when she sends pictures of grandkids. He also needs to receive texts with verification codes so he can access the Social Security website.

I thought you could get a data plan for like $5 a month. I thought he could buy a prepaid phone, get a card with minutes and then get the $5 a month data.

He's really not going to use it that much so anything above like $10 a month is pretty much too much. It seems like prepaid "plans" are even more expensive.

Any thoughts? Thanks

Depending on the network that has good reception following are good options
Sprint Ringplus [ringplus.net] $0 per month with some initial outlay
Verizon Selectel [selectelwireless.com] $100 per year
Verizon, AT&T - Tracfone [tracfone.com]

What is the phone that he has? In all the above cases, depending on the phone he has, he should be able to use the existing phone.

It's an old flip "construction" phone. His company pays for it so he won't make a change to that plan or anything. He doesn't get texts so he wants a nice phone that can do texts, GPS, and weather updates pretty much.

So I'm going to be looking on slickdeals for the best prepaid phone deals to get a nice one at a decent price.

Thanks
