I believe this is the Best Buy exclusive version that has a faster processor than the U or R versions (1 GHz vs 800 MHz) and updated USB 3.0 connectivity that fixed some of the issues that caused interference.

This is not the same version as Tmobiles beyond it being called the 68u.

There are different versions of this that include a faster processor and improved antenna chips etc, amongst other improvements that increase signal coverage and speeds but are still called the 68U.

I have the TMO version and the store bought C1 version of this. I can verify there is a difference that is noticeable between range and speeds and stability. As well as other tweaks.

I prefer the C1 revision. This one. The 68U and 68P are identical with the C1 revision. The Tmobile version features the older processor and antenna chipset.

As well the Tmobile version is missing firmware features and lacks the update frequency and security updates that the normal one does.

The Tmobile version is a gimped version. This one isn't and has some notable updated features.

Are you certain the differences aren't in the firmware?

There are no differences in hardware...

Wrong. A simple Google search shows this. Let alone the box packaging. And no the differences aren't in firmware alone. The CPU and antenna chipset have also been changed out with this and the C1 revisions. It's a hardware revision, not a firmware revision.

I have the C1 version of the Asus 68U.

The TMobile version uses the 800MHZ processor, the one listed here is 1GHZ. The TMO one also has stripped down firmware missing features and security updates. Obviously this one does not. The TMO one is also using an older antenna chipset. This is using a newer one with better range.

I can vouch for all of this as I have both the TMO one (which I no longer use) and the 68U C1 revision, which is now identical for all intents and purposes to the version listed here. I can also vouch for improved range and faster speeds and improved signal stability.

So yeah if you like a stripped down Asus 68U using an older chipset and an out of date and stripped down firmware, then sure the TMO one may work for you. It took almost a year and a half to get them to update the TMO firmware to be slightly more recent. And its still missing security updates.

You're wrong. There is a difference in hardware. This one uses a newer antenna chipset and faster CPU. Amongst other internal tweaks.

This one is better than the TMO one by a long shot. It may be an Asus 68....but its a newer updated and revised version of the older version the TMO is using. THIS is the version to get. Or get the 68U C1 version (outside of Best Buy) if you can which is the same as this one.

So, if anyone says this is the same as the TMO one they are either flat out lying, or are completely clueless to the fact there are other revisions to the 68 line that are improvements over the older TMO version that also uses a custom stripped down firmware barely supported by ASUS. And yes, those improvements are worth it. And if anyone says the faster processor and updated antenna chipset are no big deal or don't make a difference they are dead wrong or flat out lying. After using both the TMO version and the 68U C1 revision (which is the equivalent to this one), yes there is an absolute difference in speed and coverage. Let alone firmware options and adjustments.

Get this one if you can. You won't be disappointed. Its the version to have.
