Brit moving to America looking for a reasonable phone plan

rsdrahat 1 10 August 16, 2016 at 10:40 AM
As someone moving from England I'm totally confused at how mobile- I mean, cell phone- plans work over there. Either the prices are outrageous (I currently get 250 minutes, 1000 texts and 1GB 4G data for the post-Brexit equivalent of $6.50 a month..) or I've not understood how it works.

I'm looking for the cheapest way I can get a minimum of: 100 minutes, 100 texts and 500MB data per month, and I'm looking for a sim-only (or as it seems to be called in the States, bring your own device) deal. My phone will only work on GSM networks, i.e. T-mobile/AT&T.

Any help appreciated!

Cheapest? Hmmm ... Get to know someone with a legacy grandfathered T-Mobile Select Choice family plan and have them add u to their plan then pay them $15/month or however much your extra line will cost them. Extra add a line base $5 plus state cellphone taxes plus fees is $13.xx here that gets unlimited text/mins and unlimited 2g data lol.

Check out this site: http://willmyphonework.net/

That will give you an indication of carriers in the US that will support your phone. You can shop around for rates from there.

I suggest checking out Ting. You pay for what you use. Based on your minimums the monthly cost would be $22.

Good Luck.
