The Shuttle Barebones features an i7-5500U CPU w/ Intel HD Graphics & supports up to 16GB RAM. Would make a great barebones kit w/ the included items. Offer valid while promotion/supplies last - Discombobulated

1x Shuttle NC01U7 Intel i7-5500U CPU

1x Crucial 8GB DDR3L

1x Kingston 240GB SSD

Noticed an i7 at a decent price. Will be using this as a Hypervisor.

It's an Ultra Low Voltage (ULV) -U CPU… why I (mostly) like the -U CPU in my laptop (very long battery life, and low heat), none of the advantages make sense for a battery-less desktop PC.

This i7 is dual-core (not quad), and barely 10% faster than the i5 U version.

Seems like a good deal. The MSI Cubi i5 5th gen was $288AR at Fry's. With this, you get i7, 4GB more RAM, and 240GB SSD instead of 500GB HDD for $111 more and no rebate. But with MSI you get Win10 OS.

Is 8GB kit ( 2 x 4GB) or one piece of 8GB?

I think I recall that deal, and correct me if i'm wrong but it came with Windows 10 Home 64 bit. Since, I didn't care about having an O.S it didn't matter to me. If you do care about the O.S, you should be able to get a grey Win 10 Pro license for ~25.00 on ebay. Food for thought.

One piece of 8Gb. Pretty good deal. I think this deal was selling at $439.99 a while ago. Now they drop the price.

You can add a dock for an additional LAN port.

You're right, I didn't even realize they made these dual-core i5/i7's until the Cubi deal came up. I thought the whole reason behind the naming convention was that you'd always know how many physical and logical cores you'd get. These mobile processors screwed that all up lol.

If this only came with Windows 10 that'd make it a sweeter deal. For my Cubi I bought the extra 4GB of ram and a 120GB MSATA for $60 bucks. So walked away with nearly the same speed as this and a full OS for about $20 bucks less after all was said and done. If I was going to run Linux exclusively, I'd probably pick this up. TU for the mini-PC deals.

Yeah. Thus far there are no quad core ULV cpus. ULV i3s, i5s and i7s (ivy bridge through skylake at least) are ALL 2 cores with 4 threads.

The desktop naming convention has always been consistent. Mobile chips ending in H (or HQ, HK) follow desktop. Mobile chips ending in U are all 2 core / 4 thread.

I really want a mod to replace its loud fan. I have a i5 version and it's just loud.
