Thanks OP. Kind of expensive considering there is no keyboard bundled with this, and the Acer Switch Alpha 12 with Core i5/8GB/256GB SSD is available from Costco for $700.

How does the battery life compare?

Probably not as good, so if that's important to you then buy the SP4 I guess. Otherwise, it seems absurd to overpay for something that has weaker specs and no included keyboard (the Acer has an included backlit keyboard cover with the Costco deal).

Saw the i5 version bundled with the keyboard yesterday in my local Costco (MI) for $850. Don't know if that is a local-only deal or not. Couldn't find it online. Unfortunately the 4GB is a deal breaker for me, but would definitely spend a bit more for this machine than a similarly speced Switch Alpha.

Is this a deal? Considering the i5 version is the same price?

Can we stop comparing a surface to the Acer.. There is a huge difference between the build quality. Yes its 8gb of ram, i5 and ssd but they are the lowest and slowest grade. Not to mention the build of this thing.. You get what you pay for.

Baloney. I've played with the SP4 and Acer in person, and I don't think the build quality is that much worse on the Acer. Also check reddit.com/r/surface, and see all the complaints about the Surface. So don't act like it's some perfect machine. It's not. Don't be some fanboy that can't handle a little criticism of their beloved device. It's just a piece of tech.

P.S., I think this deal also beats this SP4.

I finally pulled the trigger and bought a Surface Pro 4 (i5, 8gb)yesterday (used the slickdeal $900 at MicroCenter and they price matched the keyboard to $104.90). I was considering the alpha switch, and was going back and forth but I made up my mind when I actually tested both devices. The Surface is not just much better looking, but it is incredibly obvious that it is far superior in build. The switch alpha felt like it would be eventually damaged with normal use in a sleeve or case. I also read that a common problem with the switch is missed keystrokes which would annoy me to no end. Only used my surface a little bit but so far I feel like I made the right choice, and if you can get to a MicroCenter that deal is great. One caveat: if you are not going to be taking it out of your home very often, and that extra $400 will make a big difference in your life, the alpha switch may be a better fit. (Sometimes some of us slickdeal ers forget that 'just a few hundred more' is simply not possible for many people.)

Why not? Seems like 4Gb would be enough for most users.
