Would this be a decent upgrade to the mono price sub that comes as part of the 5.1 system? Thanks

Not worth the $. Keep the monoprice. Next step IMO is something like the Klipsch 12hg when its on sale for ~150-180

More of a mid bass module than a subwoofer. Don't expect much out of this cheap-o sub or you will be let down.

was $70 last year on new egg, it's ok for a 100sqf room, my friend got 2 setup at his 200sqf room and he's somewhat satisfied

Being that I don't even have a powered sub on my system this would be way better than what I have. I've been wanting this for a long time but not sure if it'll connect to my Pioneer receiver. I've attached a pic of the back of my receiver and the polk audio sub. My current HTIB Pioneer setup has a non powered sub and connects with regular speaker wire, will this Polk Audio connect to it somehow and why does the Polk Audio have 8 different speaker wire plugs? TIA.

Sure, go for it..... make sure that you pair it with comparable front speakers, though.
