Advisory:

This is not a true GTX 1060, it is a cut down chip [anandtech.com].

What's the point of this card at 3 gigs? Anyone know? I know the 250 version will run all games at 1080p like a champ and do fine on 1440 but this?

FYI: This card has not just half the memory as the original GTX 1060, but also fewer CUDA cores (10% less).

Here is a little bit more info about the card and the reduced CUDA cores https://www.techpowerup.com/22512...x-1060-3gb

Akuma77, article says card targeted for 1080p gamers.

Strange move by nVidia.

A clearly crippled variant with 1/2 the RAM and fewer cores.

And, it looks like the target price is $149. Not sure if this is a good deal or not.

I'm still going to wait it out and stick with GTX 970 until the HBM2 cards are out.

Interesting, but I'll wait for some reviews on this one. The shorter card has me worried about heat dissipation.

A lot of games still do fine with 2/3 gigs of RAM, like the old 600/700 series cards. My 660 Ti was still running basically everything out there on mixed high settings @ 1080p.

less cores and half the vram, 1050 Ti would be a better name for this card.

As stated previously, it's not just the RAM, but the fact the card has lower performance than the previously launched 1060. With the 10% less cores, it really should not even be called a 1060 and people should avoid it just because of deceptive marketing.

Can't find the article now, but EVGA 1060 run cooler and quieter than the much longer reference models.

I'm going to guess 1060's that had some bad cores so they disabled them. Make use of some low binned product, stopgap to hold the 470/480 until they put out a real 1050.

only problem is this is a crippled 1060, so with less pcb, I'm worried about how dense the components might be. might be unfounded, but at full retail this isn't really a deal, so I have no problem waiting.

Yes, these were made to recover bad bins. Not a bad idea, but bad branding.

got so happy when I saw 1060 for 185. How does this compete with 480
