Does NOT work on Freedompop CDMA or Ring Plus
Does WORK with Freedompop GSM sim

Root & Unlock

Typed Instructions: here
Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWn1lzt-zBM

begin method 2 [summarized by desi_babu] :
Now here are the steps and the links, that i used & I know will work
with easy to follow instructions as well as screenshots to help you along the way
follow them in order {note all credit goes to author of the blog}

step 1. bypass-activation-screen [lgtribute.com]
step 2. root-no-pc required [lgtribute.com]
step 3. gsm-unlock, [lgtribute.com]
step 4. replace-kingroot-supersu (optional, but suggestted especially since u got this far) . [lgtribute.com]
step 5. handsfree-activation-disable [lgtribute.com]

some notes:
1. u dont need a pc at all. all can be done on the phone.

2. i would connect to the wifi at home (do not skip, in the tutorial it says that is optional, but u will need to do it so might as well do it now.)
good luck

let me know i u have questions.
i can try and help
i have done this to one of my phone and all went well
end method 2:

You will only get 3G (HSPA, HSPA+) speeds in the USA and most countries in the world.

1) This phone doesn't have the 4G LTE radios that work with AT&T or T-mobile. Meaning 3G (HSPA, HSPA+) only for AT&T and T-mobile. If you are using Boost, then you can get 4G LTE speeds. This phone doesn't even have 4G radios for most of Europe, Asia, or most of the world.

2) FreedomPop has free data on HSPA and HSPA+ which are 3G technologies (3.5 G). HSPA and HSPA+ are not 4G, even though they were advertised as 4G by AT&T and T-mobile.

LG Tribute 5 [lg.com]:Increase Ring Timing
You can increase the default 20 second ring time before it goes to voicemail with these steps:
1. Enter*#61*11# and press Send/Talk on your phone
2. Write down the number your calls are currently forwarded to. This is your voicemail deposit number (or in my case, my google voice #)
3. Decide how long you want the phone to ring in 5 seconds intervals. The maximum time is 30 seconds
4. Now enter **61*(number from step 2)*11* (number from step 3, use 2 digits)# and press Send/Talk
Example: **61*18085519626*11*30#
This will now change your default ring time before voicemail answers to 30 seconds. To test if it was succesfull, enter *#61*11# and press Send/Talk for the new value

Final and Simplest method to Unlock / Remove all Bloatware and Boost Branding
1. Just root with Kingoroot (make sure it is Kingo and NOT King), download using CHROME Browser. Make sure to allow "unknown sources" in security settings
2. Install Build.props from Play Store >> https://play.google.com/store/app...itor&hl=en
3. Change the line in build.prop "ro.build.target_operator = SPR" to "ro.build.target_operator = OPEN"
3. Factory Erase the phone and next time you reboot the phone all boost stuff will be gone and phone will work for any carrier/country

How to "Factory Erase the phone"?
  • Through the Backup & reset menu -> Factory Data Reset
  • OR
  • Press Volume Down + Power Key -> Recovery Mode -> Wipe data/factory reset

So is this essentially free once activated @ the stores? Or do you have to buy a plan w/ activation?

Otherwise isn't activation unnecessary if planned to be used just for wifi?

You activate it to get the $20 discount and walk out with it free. You don't need to add airtime.

Thanks for your reply!

Can I ask you if there is a cost for activation and to a limit of the number of phones you can as one person?

Can an activated phone be sold and used by another person or can it be deactivated and then reactivated?
