these cameras are horrible. They look cool and install easily with magnets but that's where the good times end. I've replaced 4 out of 5 cameras that I own...and the 5th camera started acting up last week (over period of 8 months). Constant false positives sensing Motion. About 10 second delay recording when the motion actually works. Terribly distorted video makes people look like the monster in predator (the movie) only showing a blurred image moving. Read the reviews of the Android app because there are plenty of other complaints on there which aren't exactly related to the app itself but the entire system. This is a total beta 1.0 product. I demanded arlo give me a second base station - which you can't buy without another camera btw - because their base stations can only handle 2 cameras. Any more than that and you get unusable video. I have about 10 - not exaggerating - trouble tickets open with arlo and they are non responsive or tell you stupid "solutions" like reboot your system. Also something they don't tell you is that you need at least 10mb upload speed so the video can be saved to the server as it records. Avoid at all costs! If I could return this crapware I would in a second.
Holy hell, these exact same arguments come up every time an Arlo deal is posted. These are battery operated. No they aren't AA. I have the same types in my smoke detectors, they last forever on standby. If you have these outside, far from your wireless basestation (requiring more power), in the heat, and always triggered by motion events, then the batteries won't last as long. Mine have been running for 4 months and still rate 4/4 bars.

I recommend using these indoors, even though they are "rated" for outdoors. There is nothing to say you can't mix and match services if you want different outdoor cameras. If you have 5 cameras or less, the service is free- as long as you're fine with 7 days (in age) of recordings. Compare that with the Nest per-camera service cost, and the batteries is a non-issue.

To save batteries, these aren't "always connected" to your wireless. In the event of a motion trigger, they will need to reconnect. This may cost you about 2 seconds of video delay. However, they will still trigger an alert on your phone while you're at work. If you need better quality images, or an always on connection, take a look at the Arlo Qs.

If you can't deal with these facts, shut up and go pay more for another product. These work great for what they are.

Damn on the fence about this whole security system. Not sure if I want to get this or the ring doorbell with the two outdoor cams. Would love to hear what people are using with smarthings

i have the arlo system with 3 cameras attached to one base station and have had no problems with them. They've been up a couple months and their batteris are still at 3 bars and always detect when people walk by. There is a bit of a delay when it comes to the camera turning itself on and starting the recording. But it is minimized if you take into account that they detect motion better from side to side instead of towards the camera. Keep that in mind when you place your cameras.

I dont have any negatives other than having to pay extra for mounts that have more flexibility than the magnetic mounts they provide standard.

Ugh you guys aren't making it easy hahah. For me i would get a canary but then I won't have an outside cam. I like the idea of theses because I can use them inside and outside. I also plan on getting smart things and this isn't supported. But I don't really even know why I would have to integrate with smarthings! I'm such a mess!!!!

Great price ....I did the 450 from best buy weeks ago..

Very easy to install..so far it's been a week and they are detecting very well.. battery still good and you can play with the sensitivity to trigger motion..

I'd wait for the Nest Cam Outdoor security camera.

I also have the Ring doorbell and that is terrible at picking up motion. It takes awhile for it to start recording and by that time the motion is no longer there or you will see the person leaving.

Knowing Nest pricing though, it's probably $250 for one camera or something ridiculous.

I saw this at target and expected as much. WiFi only means slow response times........ especially if they're this "cheap".

I have the Arlo system and have no issues with it but the Nest Cam requires a power outlet while the Arlo doesn't and that was a major one for me
