I keep wanting to go for it when it gets posted but then re-read about the issues folks are having with getting DD-WRT to fully function on it. It seems that Newegg should probably pull that description from the product listing or change it to Tomato.

I have the DIR-850L, picked it up for $30 refurbished last year. I have been very happy with it, range is OK, it covers my house well enough, but I have to switch from 5 ghz to 2.4 ghz on my back porch. I will say that it started having to be reset frequently about a month ago, so I saved the config, did a factory reset, and reloaded the config file and everything is fine again. Dual band AC1200 with gigabit ports for $22.50 is a very good deal. Considering picking up another for the next time someone comes to me for a wireless router recommendation.

any advice on buying a refurb SSD? By nature of it being an SSD it shouldn't really be damaged at all (no moving parts and all) but its just something I haven't thought of and am wondering if anyone has any experience?

As someone who owned the AC3200 for a couple of weeks, buyer beware. It will drop connection regularly and this is well documented on the web.

I tried everything to fix it too...been an IT guy for 20 years so not a noob.

I was trying to find a good deal on SSD. $41 for a SanDisk MLC is a very good deal, even though it's a refurb - which I generally avoid.

In for two, THANKS, OP!

I will test them with Crystal Disk Info [crystalmark.info] for health and previous usage.

Good point, this means you could get 1tb of SSD space for $165. That's a great deal!

This has been a good router for me. Solid and fast, sturdy connection to many devices.

All the newegg links on SD are going to a error 404 page not found not just on this post; anyone else having that issues? It's been happening for a few days now on all newegg links

Does anyone know what the difference between the Asus AC3100 and the Asus RT-AC88U is?

Edit: to the best of my knowledge the only significant difference is that the 88U has 8 LAN ports, while the AC3100 has the standard 4. There are also some cosmetic differences.

Looking to buy this. Can anyone who has this router comment on their experience?

Absolutely. Had mine for a little over a month. Exchanged it out for another one and it did the same thing. Finally gave up on it and went to a more expensive model with a different brand. Very happy with what I have now.

I bought the refurbished ASUS RT-AC66U in February and it died this month and it's outside the 90 day warranty.

I was thinking about the D-Link AC3200 but there's a lot of bad reviews https://www.amazon.com/D-Link-Tri...B00PVD81MK

Seems alright on custom fw like dd-wrt: http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/view...67c5c74ab2

Otherwise, I think you're right in it being a train wreck.
