I'm debating, this or 50mm f/1.8g? I'll be using it mostly for new baby pictures.

Depends on what kind of camera you're shooting on. If you have a full frame camera, the 50mm would work well, but if you have a crop sensor, I would suggest the 35mm for baby pictures.

Semantics here, but in the DX format, a 35mm lens is not wide angle. Because of the crop factor, it makes 35mm a standard/normal focal length.

That said, it's a decent starter prime lens for DX. I'm not fond of the CA though.

I have the 35 and the 50 for my d5500.

the 35 is my preference for baby photos
