Guitar: http://www.monoprice.com/product?...1&format=2

Picks: http://www.monoprice.com/product?...1&format=2

Add both items to cart, proceed to checkout, and enter promo code PIKE to take $20 off.

You can replace the picks with any other filler item of your choice to get over $100.

Guitar colors available at this price are black, vintage sunburst, and goldtop. I think this might be the best price ever for this Les Paul style guitar.

thank you! wasn't planning on getting one but this is a good price for a LP clone that consistently gets good reviews.

I picked up one to the Route 66 guitars a few weeks ago to see what all the hype was about. I had had my hands on an older California Highway and was not impressed at all.

What I really wanted to find out was if it was significantly better than other guitars at this price point.

Fit & Finish
From 5ft away this looks like a much more expensive guitar. The (faux?) binding looks good as does the metallic gold painted top. The inlays are obviously plastic. Close inspection reveals the flaws in the outer finish as well as hairs or fibers in the finish. Running your hand along the edges of the fretwork is not smooth but neither does it cut your hand up. The bolt on neck has a small gap all the way around. The 1/4" jack plate is mounted crooked. Despite all those minor complaints I was actually positively surprised here.
Rating: Significantly better than expected from a $100 guitar

Gig bag
It is crap. The only thing this is likely to protect your guitar from is dust.
Rating: As expected from a $100 guitar

Tuners
Low ratio cheap tuners. They work
Rating: As expected from a $100 guitar

Playability
The neck is straight and playability is pretty good. IMO, it feels and plays just as nice as a $400 Epiphone LP. While that might not normally be high praise, I paid $80 for mine.
Rating: Better than expected from a $100 guitar

Electronics
All was going pretty well until I plugged it in. About the only positive thing I can say here is that it does make noise when you play it. The neck pickup is a muddy atrocity. The bridge is a little better than the neck but thin and metallic sounding. The pots are garbage. Turning the volume knob from "10" to "4" reduces the volume by about 25%. Between "4" and "2" reduces it another 35% or so. Below "2" it just cuts out altogether. Both volume pots display the same behavior. I have read some reviews from a few years ago that were pretty positive on the electronics. I can only assume they are no longer using the same components.
Rating: Significantly worse than expected from a $100 guitar

Overall
If you are planning to buy this guitar and play it as-is I can't recommend it for any level of player. The electronics on an electric guitar are pretty important and these are terrible. It would be unreasonable to expect expensive pickups in a guitar at this price point but these are well below par. An Epiphone LP Special has materially better sounding pickups and are often available for under $100.

On the other hand, if you are looking for a decent LP clone to put your own hardware into, this is a pretty good value. A pair of inexpensive pickups, new pots and wiring can be had for $100. That $180 investment would leave you with a pretty decent little guitar assuming you have the tools to install the parts yourself.

As is often the case, you are getting what you pay for here. While it may look and feel better than most $100 guitars it certainly doesn't sound as good as those guitars.

Thanks for the honest review! I can tell that 95% of the reviews on any site are from beginners who know nothing or experts who are buying the item for mods. It leaves a huge gap for regular players who don't have the gumption nor time to replace all the electronics and will be unhappy with the tone.

was hoping they'd give you plectrums instead of picks, and if there were 13, then I'd be in

12 is such an odd number
