I don't own them, but I've been looking at both for a long time.

The Vizio P55 is an IPS panel. It'll maintain it's color accuracy at an angle much better than the VA panel in the Samsung, but it does have drawbacks. IPS panels don't have as good of a contrast ratio when compared to VA panels. This means blacks won't be as black, etc. With HDR becoming a thing, this might hurt it in the long run. The P55 does have a full array backlight, which might help a bit with some of the IPS drawbacks. It might be important to note that most of these drawback will be more visible in a dark room, a showroom environment might hide it a bit.

IPS also sort of has a glow to it, when all the lights in the room are off and the TV is on a completely black screen, it'll still look black but it'll have a glow behind it. Some people mistake it as backlight bleed, which can happen on pretty much any LCD panel, but it's just inherent to the technology.

VA panels have a much higher contrast ratio, which helps with HDR, but they can sometimes display a problem called crushed black. A loss of detail in a dark scene, you can google for example.

Since you're looking at console gaming, HDR is on the minds of both Sony and Microsoft. Input latency of both tvs is very low when in game mode and viewing regular content, but things change when you switch to HDR. Vizio tvs only have one hdmi port that supports the very low input latency (hdmi 5) and one that supports HDR (hdmi 1). You'd have to plug your console into HDMI 1 to watch HDR content, which makes the input latency go from 19.7 ms, to 65.2 ms when watching HDR content and 38ms when watching regular content. Some people may not notice it, but it really depends on the type of game you're playing. The Samsung doesn't have the same problem and it achieves a 22.6ms input lag with HDR content. That alone would make me go with the Samsung if gaming was super important to me. All these numbers came from the rtings.com reviews.

Also when it comes to HDR, the Samsung has the ability to get much brighter. The Vizio does support both forms of HDR (Dolby and HDR10), but I'd make a bet on HDR10 becoming more of the standard at this rate. At this price and size, I'd go with the Samsung. The P series 50, 60+ are all VA panels, so it might be a bit more apple to apples there. If you need a wide viewing angle, the P55 isn't bad though.

I've been eyeing this exact model. This looks like a great deal. Unfortunately for me, I need to be able to price match at BB as I have a bunch of gift cards and certificates I need to use. Anyway, here's some useful links:
