Online Optical - Bring Your Own Frames Question

PaCuLard 7 10 August 20, 2016 at 06:24 AM
SD Folks,

I just found out Eye Buy Direct, my go-to optical co, that lets you send them your frames stopped this service.

Was wondering if any of the SD folks could provide current recommendations for similar internet based optical companies.

I did see that 39dollarglasses.com offers this service.

However, was hoping a SD pro could provide some recommendations.

Also, on a whim, I called one of the local chain optical shop that used to let you provide your own frame and the saleslady they also stopped this practice. She implied that customers would bring in cheap knock-offs that appeared new but would break when the lenses were inserted. Not sure how true this is.

Thanks In advance!

This is just my opinion, but the local eyeglass places are so #$@&%*! outrageous I never shop there. I was sitting there waiting for what seemed like an hour to get some help and see what the price might be on some glasses. I overheard the lady say that you could not use coupons with insurance and that her bill was $800 for one pair of glasses. I just walked out and ordered the same exact pair as they had in the store for $150 with lenses.

I go to whatever local store to scope out what I want. I read the part numbers off the frame arms and google it. I usually use framesdirect.com or coastal.com. Frames Direct had some brands of safety glasses I liked better for work. Work pays for them, but only $200.
