This Insignia(TM) NS-F4T7-RD [bestbuy.com] mini fan features a 360? tilt head, so you can choose the direction of the airflow and keep your bedroom or office cool. The low-volume operation helps minimize background noise.

Well reviewed. Pics look all metal.

Nope, these have a standard AC cord.

Based on the Q&A, this is correct. I believe this is the perfect sized fan for a project like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ITtlxjvLQis

Good for ventilating one of those computer desk compartments to. Especially if the door is left closed. just cut two holes in the back, one high, one low, and have this blow the air out the top one.

Sadly, no longer on sale Frown

Size yes, power requirement not. This one is AC. That one is DC. Of course you could run the fan/cooler using AC but that's not this project. It uses Solar panels connected to a DC fan. I like the portability/off grid/more green aspects of that project.

What I was more referring to was the size of the fan rather than how it's powered. Much larger than a 4" fan is going to be problematic for mounting. I consider the solar panel a lot more "optional" in that project vs. the proper size fan you need. I have no problem running a normal, plug-in fan to keep myself cool, I do it constantly in the summertime anyway. I'm working on building one of those mentioned in the video, as I have a room that has no option for AC of any kind (without spending thousands for central air).

If you want really inefficient cooling, go for it. It is a pretty cool idea, just not a very good power consumption to cooling efficiency ratio.

If there were any other (affordable) way, but when you're in a room with no windows, you have 0 choice. Many of the reviews seem to indicate it helps, and when it's been 90+ around here lately, it's not a bad move.

Wondering why not go with a portable A/C unit? they run on 110-120 and you could easily rig the exhaust to somewhere I would hope with some extra length added. I am sure you have thought of this option but curious why it won't work for you. Confused

Guess you missed the part where I said:

Trust me, there is NO WAY for me to rig a portable AC unit up, I researched it very thoroughly, and even had an HVAC guy in my house today who agreed with my assessment. Central air or a ductless system would be my only options (well that, and the "redneck" air conditioner I mentioned).
