Just got my new Note7 yesterday and considered picking up the new Gear VR as well (the Blue-Black one, model number SM-R323NBKAXAR), but figured I'd hold off until discounts started popping up. Well lo and behold, Best Buy already has it on sale for $79.99 (plus any applicable sales taxes), a pretty decent $20 discount considering it just came out here in the US this past Friday. I couldn't find it mentioned in the Sunday ad itself, so here you go:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/samsung-gear-vr-for-select-samsung-cell-phones-blue-black/5577911.p?id=bb5577911&skuId=5577911
[bestbuy.com]

The only catch is that it was only available for In-Store Pickup when I ordered it, so if you don't have a Best Buy nearby, you may be out of luck. In fact, the 3-4 closest Best Buys to me didn't even have it in stock (I live in the LA area), so looks like I'm driving out to Pasadena today. If it's in stock at your local store, you might be able to just stroll in and pick it up at this price, but I'd still order it online for In-Store Pickup out of an abundance of caution...

Also, if you're looking for the older version of the Gear VR, that one is in fact in the Sunday Ad for $73.99. But supposedly this new one is backwards compatible with most of the recent Samsung phones, so probably not worth the additional $6 savings.

Let me know how it goes for all of you!

here's a decent breakdown of the new features:

http://www.wired.com/2016/08/new-...y-can-buy/

For the most part, the biggest change seems to be the conversion to USB-C, but it also comes with adapters to work with the Gear phones that use MicroUSB. Its also supposed to be a little lighter, more comfortable, and have better focusing. But I won't know for sure until I pick mine up later today woot

main port is USB C , so future proof, can be used with older phones too by swapping the adapters.

New one is significantly lighter, better ergonomics and better away to adjust to adjust focus.

Thanks guys. It doesn't seem that much different to upgrade. For an S6 the only benefits seem to be that it's lighter, has a new button, and a better pad. I need one that has independent focus for each eye. Some of us are not evenly broken.

Amazon has this one for $72. I haven't really looked into these yet so I don't know much about them

https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Ge...ds=Gear+VR

Just noticed this seems to be the older version which won't work with the Note 7 or S7

If you already have one, old one is good enough.

But if you are thinking of getting now spend the extra 10$ and get the new onw

Doubt it. States it supports Note 5 and newer.

the note 5 has come down on price quite a bit, would be the better route to go. the issue is more than just fit, but hardware performance and software compatibility for a reasonable VR experience.
