What happened to Slickdeals lately?

The front page deals almost all require more than the listed price. Visa Checkout, Amazon Prime membership, Credit Card for free items, fishy rebates, you name it, why list a price if its requiring other crap just to purchase it.. This is like 80% of the deals that attract me.

I want to see an item and its price, not an item and its price if I purchase some type of long term membership and open a Credit Card followed by me sending in a Rebate after signing up for a Subscribe & Save...

Retailers don't always make it easy to get a good deal. If you don't have the common brands of credit card, don't have Amazon Prime, don't have Newegg Premier, don't have Shoprunner (free with American Express cards) and won't do rebates then you are missing out on a huge amount of deals.

If you want the best deals you need these things. That's just the way things have gone.

A good deal is a good deal even if it requires doing some work to get it.

I wouldn't say its Slickdeals. It's more the retailers. There's a lot more deal hunting consumers now, so they know they don't need to have the easy low prices like years ago. Then you have consumers who will pay retail or little below *gasp*.
Just an example, but in my area whenever they have holiday clearance, it never goes below 40-50% because non-deal savvy types will buy with that low a mark down. Many years ago you could go into Lowes and buy a Christmas tree for $15 the day after Christmas, sometimes even before. 7 Foot with all the bells and whistles.
The deals are still there, you just need to jump through more hoops to get them.

It's become popular to bargain hunt. Not too long ago it was unfashionable.

So the competition has increased and merchants are fully aware of the public's shopping patterns.
You could wait until the final price drop. Not any more!

The in-store deals are now almost nonexistent and the online deals are drying up as well.

Oh man, don't get me started about this. Dumbos do that at Target all the time. They don't realize that every item can hit 70% off or more if they just wait a few weeks.

Usually I have to end up going to the remote locations to find anything decent.
