Same specs as the Dell a few days ago for about $240 at BB, if I remember right. Would rather have a Dell than an Acer.

But you are right rather have the dell because it was cheaper and this acer only supports 8gb ddr3 and just a 2.5 ssd. I was hoping at least one m.2 slot and ddr4 support up to 32gb.

Point taken. However it was quite a bit cheaper and a better brand, so probably more well constructed. I have heard too many nightmares about Acer quality control and customer support, or lack thereof. Not that Dell customer support is what it used to be.

I agree actually Dell support has been ok. however there machines are all becoming garbage. it's gotten to the point that everything is low quality. some machines with built in processor and emmc.

There was a 17" Lenovo with similar specs for $280. It only has a 500gb hard drive but you would want to replace this with an ssd anyways.

I ended up ordering the Asus on the front page that comes with an ssd. More than I was planning to spend ($399), but also has a 1080 matte screen and 8 GB ram. Only 256 gb, but that's actually plenty for me.

Thanks. Hope you're right. I'm having a very hard time letting go of my very old laptop because I like the keyboard so much and they make them completely differently these days. And I've heard the Asus one is mediocre. Can't win lol

I ordered the Asus. It has 8 gb ddr3. Is there really that much difference between ddr3 and ddr4? Most laptops work fine with just 4 gb, so I figured 8 would be plenty. I'm a little surprised that all the new ones don't include ddr4.

well ddr4 is only Skylake so any Intel processor with 6100 or 6400 or 6700 should have ddr4. some still have ddr3 but that's the older mobos. honestly only reason I would get a laptop with ddr4 is because it will be cheaper and it's the latest. the biggest problem with all these laptops is the hard drive. u must upgrade to an ssd or m.2. having a mechanical drive is like torture to me.
