The reel is a 5/10, but this deal is 8/10. Safe to call this a 6.5/10.

Rather cheap components in the Salt Striker, despite being well-equipped at resisting corrosion. Not the smoothest by far, not even in this price range.

Thanks for the review! Which model do you own and how often do you use it in saltwater?

I have the gold/white salt striker cabelas initially put out. It's been a great reel for several years. The bail am is starting to turn green, but all else is good.

I only use it on vacation one week a year but go out everyday. It works for those using it occasionally/frequently.

If you live near the ocean and go several times a week, I could see this not holding up as well... But I'm looking to get a smaller backup reel for my boys (ages 7 and 3) as they're getting into fishing as well and want them to have their own equipment.

Thanks for this. I have several of these reels and ordered several more. These are not top of the line, of course they're not. Spend your money on something else if you're saltwater fishing several times a week. But for those that are going to the salt a few times a year these can't be beat at this price. They hold up well to the salt and are very easy to disassemble and clean, which is the most important thing. You need to clean after EVERY time they touch the salt or nothing will last. I'm glad this thread hasn't got much attention because I called a bunch of buddies and they ordered multiples. Thanks OP, repped.
