Certified refurbished usually means refurbished by the manufacturer (Microsoft), and usually come with a small warranty from the manufacturer itself, as mentioned in the description of a one year Microsoft warranty.

If you are comfortable with Certified Refurbished, go for this one hands down. Very minor differences in the SP3/4 and not enough to forgo the i7/8GB bump.

Biggest detractors for the SP3 are the heat issue with the i7 vers which was hit or miss, and the refurbished vs new argument.

Refurb warranty is 1 year so just as good as new manufacturer warranty, but you save a lot vs a new sp4 right now. Any 512gb ssd is going to be at least 1500$ even on sale. If you value storage more than a slight bump in cpu gen speed, than this is a really good deal.

Used sp2 and trackpad on the smart keyboard and smart pen alike and they all had issues with tracking sensitivity. Mouse pointer would usually skip around and it was hard to lock on. Sp3/4 definitely improved in that category. Touch/pen/and trackpad are much more fluid now. Otherwise displays are about the same, and build quality is also great. Get last years model & save a bunch in my opinion.

My SP3 heats up pretty quick and mildly hot. I have an older model that has that yellow line on the screen but doesn't affect anything for me. I barely notice it now. I paid about 500 for mine and it's a Intel Core i5, with 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB version. I probably should of never bought it since I barely use it and still has at least 80 something gigs of space still. Only bought it because I bought a bag pack that had nothing in it.

Please use this forum posting for instructions on how to keep the heat and fan in check with these systems. My i5 machine is a wonderfully quiet and fantastic machine now, and I can crank up the performance in the blink of an eye (right from the action center/tray on the right side of Windows 10) when I really need it.

The directions work for both Surface Pro 3 and Surface Pro 4.
